World Of Dance Festival

Redbridge town hall held an event in order to raise funds for two childrens' charities - Haven House Children's Hospice and The Dream Factory.

The theme of the evening was ‘World of Dance’ and we were invited to be the Scottish representatives. It was an interesting evening, being able to see all sorts of dance from around the world, including African, Chinese, Indian and the well known English Morris Dancers.

We all put on a terrific show and it was greatly appreciated by the organisers and the audience.

Hertford Castle Hall Concert

The South East Herts Scottish Dance Society  asked the Reid Scottish Dancers to join in their ‘Scotch ‘n Schnapps’ concert. This was an evening of music and dance celebrating the SEHSCD’s 50th anniversary, who were joined by musicians from Wildeshausen, their twin town in Germany .

Along with some traditional Highland Dances, it was a great opportunity for us to perform our recent choreographed routines. We also had many requests for some ’old favourites’ which have been medal winners in previous years.

Oban 2008

A party of 23 from the Reid Scottish Dancers, including relatives, supporters and 8 dancers, travelled to Oban to compete in the Highlands and Islands Choreography Competition.

This was our fourth time since 2004 and this year we entered two choreography routines. Our dance ‘The Saltire’ was in the Any Age Group in the category of a Scottish Theme. We also entered our English Choreography winner ‘Something with Swords’ in the 16 and over age group in the Broadswords category.

Although neither of our routines were placed we came away knowing we all performed spectacularly, at our very best. This was emphasised by the compliments we received from the other (Scottish) dancers and spectators, this was very encouraging and rewarding to hear. Along with the competitions, we thoroughly enjoyed the social aspect of the weekend, by going out for meals and generally spending time together away from the usual dancing classes back home.

All in all it was a very successful May Bank Holiday Weekend for everyone involved.
